Ashakiran Trust was formed on December 5, 1985. It is funded by Mr. Piyush Desai, Chairman, Wagh Bakri Tea Group. The trust dona tes to the institutions who works in the field of educ ation, health and medicines. It encourages institutions that work for the welfare of Ph ysically Handicapped.
CEE is a national institution es tablished in 1984, and is supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Clima te Change, Government of India and associa ted with Nehru Foundation for De velopment. The main aim of CEE is to crea te Environmen tal a wareness among children, youth, decision makers and the general community. To achie ve this, CEE de velops innov ative programmes and ma terials and field tests them for their validity and e ffectiveness. The aim is to de velop models that can be adapted to suit local conditions.
The Sabarmati Ashram (also known as Harijan Ashram) was home to Mohandas Gandhi from 1917 until 1930 and ser ved as one of the main centres of the Indian freedom struggle. Originally called the Satyagraha Ashram, r eflecting the movement toward passive resis tance launched by the Mahatma, the Ashram became home to the ideology that set India free. The object of the Ashram is that its members should qualify themselves for, and make a cons tant Endea vour towards, the service of the country, not inconsis tent with universal good. The Ashram is presently in volved in a number of activities that ser ves to both preser ve the his tory of Gandhi and the freedom struggle and also to promote and educ a te people in the great philosophies, values and teachings of Gandhi. The Ashram Trust funds activities that include educ ation for the visitor, the community and routine main tenance of the museum and its surrounding grounds. Keeping con tact with as well as helping and undertaking study and research in Gandhian thought and activities and publishing the results of such study and research and allied liter ature for the benefit of the people. Obser vance in a suitable manner of occasions connected with Gandhi's life. Main taining con tact with the youth and student community and providing facilities to them for the study of Gandhian thought.
